Electric Comp

The competition format is:

Round 1
Mass launch with no limit on motor run time. Fly for 10 minutes and land within marked circle for landing bonus. No penalty for exceeding 10 minutes but no landing
bonus given.

Round 2
Mass launch with timed 1 minute motor run. Fly for 10 minutes including motor on time and land within marked circle for landing bonus. No penalty for exceeding 10 minutes but no landing bonus given.

Round 3
Three 10 minute flights from one battery, landing bonus for landing in marked circle within the 10 minutes. No penalty for exceeding 10 minutes but no landing bonus given

Scoring in each round is:

1 point per second flight time. Landing bonus 100 points.

So, for example:

- a flight of 8m 30s missing the landing circle scores 510 points

- a flight of 8m 30s landing in the circle scores 510 + 100 = 610 points.

- a 12m minute flight scores 600 points

- a 10m 00s flight landing in circle scores the maximum of 700 points.

Highest score out of a possible 3500 points wins.

This year's Electric Competition saw a slightly disappointing 6 entrants - of which only 3 of completed all 5 rounds.

The first two retirements (Ian and Howard) were caused by models being 'lost' in what we believe was a combination of thermals and a high altitude haze - neither the pilots nor the spectators were able to spot the models which were there one moment and gone the next! Although no-one saw them come down, the remains of both models were eventually located at the far side of the patch. Thankfully, and most importantly, there was no injury or damage to property. Eric's model suffered a mechanical failure which prevented him from continuing after Round 2.
