Under the National Lockdown regulations which came into effect on 6th January, outdoor sportsgrounds and sports facilities
(which includes model flying club sites) have been added to the list of venues that must close. Members must not fly until the restrictions are lifted.
Newmarket Model Flying Club (NMFC) is affliated to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA). The club operates on three sites in the Newmarket area - differing restrictions apply to each site, details of which can be found here
Gliders, IC and Electric models may be flown here. The site has a grass runway which is maintained all year round.
Newmarket Heath, Snailwell
Gliders, IC and electric models may be flown here. The site has a grass runway which is maintained during the summer months.
Only gliders and electric models are permitted. There is no runway which means the site is only suitable for models which can be hand launched.
The club also holds indoor flying meetings in Burwell during the winter months.
Maps showing the location and layout of each site can be found on the Flying Sites page.
The club is always looking for new members, of all ages and abilities. So if you've been flying for years, or just want to give it a try, get in touch and we can help get you flying. We have club training aircraft, so you don't even have to own a model to give it a go.
Club trainers are on hand on our training evenings to help beginners get to grips with the controls and, don't worry, they won't let you crash. Our training aircraft use a buddy box system, so the trainer can take control at any point during the flight.
The club is mentioned in this article, published in issue 146 of BMFA news (Article reproduced with the kind permission of BMFA News).
