Newmarket Model Flying Club (NMFC) is affliated to British Model Flying Association (BMFA). The club operates on Newmarket Heath Snailwell where gliders and IC or Electric models can be flown
Our members also enjoy the facilities of a second site at Rowley Mile Newmarket, where only Gliders or Electric models are permitted. The Rowley Mile site is not operational on Newmarket race days. See the page When can I fly for times and dates.
More detailed maps of both flying sites can be seen on the Flying Sites page.
The club has very recently obtained permission to fly at a site in West Row. We are currently working to get this site live and there will be a BBQ at the site on 8th July 2018. Updates to the maps will be forthcoming. In the mean time the easiest way to get to the site is by using postcode IP288PD. Once there you should see a long track in front of you. Proceed down the track for a few hundred yards and you should see a field to your right. The field has a large container in it and should soon have a NMFC banner on this.
For the time being members should not fly at this site until after the BBQ, so that they can familiarise themselves with the operations at the site. The site is within the Air Traffic Control zone of Mildenhall Air Base, so flights can only be undertaken once they have been informed. Full details of the operations for the site will be published soon.
The club is always looking for new members, both young and old. So if you've been flying for years, or just want to give it a try, get in touch and we can help get you flying. We have club training aircraft, so you don't even have to own a model to give it a go.
Club trainers are on hand on our training evenings to help beginners get to grips with the controls and, don't worry, they won't let you crash. Our training aircraft use a buddy box system, so the trainer can take control at any point during the flight.
The club is mentioned in this article, published in issue 146 of BMFA news (Article reproduced with the kind permission of BMFA News).
