Newmarket Model Flying Club aims to provide a friendly, safe environment for its members to enjoy their model flying. This includes the provision of training for those new to the hobby.
As set out in the Club Rules, only those members with a BMFA 'A' Certificate (or higher) are allowed to fly solo. Beginners and Novices are required to fly under the direct supervision on one of the instructors listed below. Once an instructor is happy that a Beginner has mastered the basics, that member becomes an Improver and may fly under the supervision of any experienced club member. In addition to practicing their flying, Improvers should seek the assistance of a club examiner with a view to preparing for, and taking, an 'A' Certificate test.
It is normally possible to arrange one or two 'trial' flights for absolute beginners but members will need their own model and equipment before they can make any individual training arrangements with an instructor. Instructors are happy to advise on model setup but it is important that trainees have an understanding of their own radio equipment.
Training may be given at the club's regular Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions (held at the Snailwell site during the summer months) or at any of the sites at a mutually agreed time. Trainees should be aware that instructors' time is likely to be shared at training evenings.
The onus for arranging training rests with the trainee. Please remember Instructors are volunteers and under no pressure to attend.
Initial contact with an instructor should either be made in person or by the email addresses given below. Most
instructors are happy to share their mobile numbers for subsequent contact.
Instructors and trainees are encouraged to share their activities via the Club Teamup Calendar.
